The Maranta genus, native to the American tropics, have some of the most beautiful, most decorative leaves in the plant kingdom. In terms of display, Maranta are all fairly low-growing plants, with none reaching over about 8 inches tall, making them excellent for grouped displays of plants.
They require plenty of warmth and humidity and are less temperamental than their close relatives, Calathea. They are however very susceptible to drought.
If the tips of the leaves are turning brown or curling up, the plant is getting too much light. Another cause for brown tips can also be the chlorine found in tap water.
