The Guatemalan tiger rump is a new world dwarf species with striking ‘tiger stripe’ patterns on the abdomen, copper carapace with black velvet legs. This is arguably one of the most striking tarantulas in the hobby, owing to its vibrant and varied colouration. This Tarantula is skittish when disturbed so it is more suited to Intermediate level keepers due to its temperament. What this species lacks in size is certainly compensated for with its feeding response, they are fantastic hunters and will rarely refuse food. This species is endemic to Guatemala and is found usually in tropical forest areas.

They are a hardy tarantula and amazingly easy to keep. A standard terrestrial enclosure with coco fibre, a hide and a water bowl are sufficient for keeping this tarantula. Try to keep the substrate slightly moist but not too wet, humidity should ideally be around 70% with ambient temperatures of between 20c-26c.

Slings and juveniles will be a little reclusive but it will be a more prominent display Tarantula once sub adult/adult.

This Tarantula isn’t as large as some of its South American cousins but it’s still a favourite within the hobby.
